FAQ

  1. I'm over 6'. Will I fit? The answer is: it depends. There are many factors that determine if you'll be comfortable using the Deschutes. It depends upon the height of the setup, the depth of your sleeping pad and your sleeping style. Take a look at the picture of the Deschutes Tarp with the Serenity NetTent, the Serenity is 84" or 7' long and has vertical end walls of 9". Without the Serenity, the height is 13" between ground and canopy at the point where the Serenity would end.

These days many people like using thick 2" to 4" deep sleeping mats. While they are comfortable, they will significantly compromise internal space and reduce headroom. Setting up the Deschutes low to the ground will do the same. However, when properly set up, most people will find the Deschutes has both plenty of room and weather protection.
  2. What is the recommended Pole Height? The Deschutes Tarp can be set up at different heights. At 40" the Deschutes hugs the ground providing maximum protection. The Deschutes can accommodate a variable height of between 45" to 49" depending upon conditions and your personal preferences. For maximum interior space or when using the Serenity NetTent, set your pole to 49". In most cases, you'll want to angle your pole, so the bottom of it is inside the vestibule area. This helps to maximize the sleeping area.

Great value and full-functioned.
Color: Black
This is a simple, elegant little scale with timer. It's perfect for use with a small espresso machine like my Breville Bambino Plus. It shifts easily from counter use weighing beans before grinding, to placing on the drip tray to time and weigh shots. The top is smooth and water resistant. I think it's a great value.

Premium experience from a scale
This scale is not cheap, but it comes with a premium experience. The overall build quality is excellent, and it looks and feels great. Scale is extremely sensitive and response, and very consistent. Quick to zero, quick to turn on. Display is clear and easy to read. Well insulated from water, with only the bottom being semi-exposed to liquids (note that it is NOT waterproof, so still be careful - do not submerge it). It also has an espresso mode which can be toggled on/off. That mode will automatically tare when placing things on it, meaning you can weigh your beans, take off the bowl and put back on a cup to brew the espresso into, all without tareing manually. It also detects when you're actually brewing, and it does so by detecting a steady flow of liquid. This specifically can be a bit finicky, it may or may not work for you depending on your machine and how you brew. My only single complaint is the volume of the beeping. By default it plays a loud beep whenever you're using the touch buttons. It is very loud and I turned it off immediately. Unfortunately it seems there is no way to lower the volume on the beeps. Not a deal-breaker at all for me, but something to consider if you care about audio feedback.

Reliable scale, great for starting on a budget while still getting fairly solid results
This scale performs wonderfully and is very reliable. I will say the only issue I am having is that it seems to be very very touchy with not getting an exact weight reading and flickers a lot. I don't think this is really an issue as it might just be super sensitive. But for the price it's absolutely worth it

You Don't Really Need This, But...
This combination coffee scale and timer works exactly as advertised. It measures weights up to 2000 grams with 1/10 gram accuracy. The scale has three operating modes: espresso, pour over and manual. In espresso mode, the scale will automatically tare after a cup is placed on it then automatically start the count up timer and weigh incoming espresso as it starts to pour. In pour over mode, it will automatically tare after your cup/dripper/filter is in place. Then it weighs out the coffee dose as you add it. After you tare again manually, the timer and scale will start as you pour hot water. This allows you to let the saturated coffee grounds off gas for the desired number of seconds before continuing the pour. Manual mode is just that. You control the tare function and start the timer yourself. Battery capacity is great so USB charging will be infrequently required. Accessories include a short USB-A to USB-C cord and a clip-on silicone heat shield to protect the scale from hot espresso. Coffee spills are easy to cleanup and don't seem to have any ill effects on the scale itself. One gripe though: the weighing platform is only about 10 cm square so anything larger than a small coffee cup will block part of the digital displays. After all, the scale needs to fit inside an espresso machine. It isn't a full size kitchen scale. But really, do you need this device? If you want to be ultra precise in your coffee measurements, you love gadgets, or you revel in the coffee making ritual, the answer is certainly YES!

Scale programming and stabilizing
It took me a little time to figure out the different programming modes but now I know how to get quickly to the program I need for the coffee I brew. The scale is very sensitive and it takes a second until the scale stabilizes. All in all, I like it.
